Donald Roy Pettit (born April 20, 1955) is an American chemical engineer and a NASA astronaut. He is a veteran of two long-duration stays aboard the International Space Station, one Space Shuttle mission and a six-week expedition to find meteorites in Antarctica.
Weislogel and colleagues have already been granted three patents for devices invented as a result of their work. One is for a microgravity condensing heat exchanger. Another describes a device that separates and controls multiphase fluids. The third patent is for–you guessed it– a low-gravity coffee cup.
His original cup was redesigned by Mark Weislogel and his students at Portland State University. Now, the newly designed Zero-G coffee cup gives astronauts the fuel they need and the ability to smell coffee just like they would at home. “Imagine now, you have a kind of a day at work in space,” Pettit said.
