I would recommend Colin Harmon’s book about running coffee shops to any business owner (or manager) in the coffee industry. Harmon offers some interesting and fairly original insights into best coffee shop practices, but the real value of the book is in the general good business sense it espouses.
The spaces are inviting, the coffee is delicious, and the experiences are memorable. And that, in short, is why you should consider Colin’s advice when it comes to running a coffee shop.
He’s owned and opened four himself since 2009, grown his business into an acclaimed stop for specialty coffee in Dublin, and he himself has become a noteworthy coffee professional. 3fe – or Third Floor Espresso if you prefer – is a name many coffee professionals will recognize, and it understandably carries some admiration.
It’s simply an accounting of the different aspects of running a coffee shop – from picking out the location, to working out budgets, to hiring employees, to figuring out how to please the most difficult customers and solve small, everyday frustrations.
